Why twenty years, in writing

When you have roofing work carried out you are making a serious investment in your property, and the most reliable way to judge how confident a roofer is in their own work is to look at what they are willing to put in writing. We back every project we complete with a 20 year full written company guarantee, covering both the workmanship of our roofers and every material we supply and fit.

You receive it as a formal written document when the job is signed off, so there is something solid to keep with your property paperwork. It is not a line buried in a quote and it is not a handshake on the driveway.

Twenty years is a long time to stand behind a roof and it is not a commitment we make lightly. It reflects the materials we buy, the way we fix them, and the simple fact that we would far rather do a job once and do it properly than keep coming back to it.

What it covers

A lot of roofing guarantees are quietly split in two: a short warranty on the labour from the contractor, and a separate manufacturer warranty on the materials that you are left to chase up yourself. Ours is not. We take responsibility for the whole installation, so there is never a question about who you should be calling. Your guarantee covers:

• All workmanship — every part of the installation carried out by our team, from stripping and preparation through to underlay, battening, fixing, leadwork, flashings, verges, ridges, valleys and the final finish.
• All materials — slates, tiles, underlay and membranes, flat roofing and EPDM systems, timber, fixings, lead, fascias, soffits, guttering and every other component we supply and fit.
• Weathertightness — if water finds its way in through work we have completed, we come back and put it right.
• Defects and failures — any fault in the materials we supplied, or in the way they were installed, corrected at no cost to you.
• Labour and parts — repairs under the guarantee are free of charge. No call-out fee, no hourly rate, and no bill for replacement materials.

One phone call, no small print

If something goes wrong with work we have done, you ring us on 01253 486037. You do not contact a manufacturer, you do not fill in a claim form, and you are not passed between a labour warranty and a materials warranty while the water keeps coming in. We come back out.

What it does not cover

We would rather be clear about this now than argue about it later. The guarantee covers our work and our materials. It does not cover:

• Parts of the roof we did not work on, or pre-existing defects elsewhere on the building that we identified and you chose not to have done.
• Damage caused by someone else working on the roof after us.
• Damage from an event outside normal weather — impact damage, fire, or a structural failure in the building itself.
• Blockages caused by debris, leaves or wind-blown sand that has not been cleared. Gutters and outlets need clearing periodically on this coast; that is maintenance, not a defect.

If you are ever unsure whether something falls under the guarantee, ring and ask. We would rather come and look than have you assume it is not covered.

It applies to everything we do

The same 20 year written guarantee covers re-roofing, flat roofing and EPDM, leadwork, guttering, fascias and soffits, and roof lift work. Repairs are covered too, on the work carried out.

Ask the same question of everyone quoting

When you are comparing roofing quotes, the guarantee is part of the price and it is worth asking about directly. How long is it? Does it cover materials as well as labour, or only labour? Is it from the contractor or from a manufacturer? And crucially — do you get it as a written document, or is it a sentence in an email? A cheaper quote with a two year verbal assurance behind it is not really cheaper.
